WOODLAND WALK

October 2009
New gates are to be fitted at all the main entry and exit routes onto the railway line footpath to control who/what can walk along the footpath.  Public seats and picnic benches are to be positioned at various points along the route.
September 2009
The Environmental study application was successful (£1499.00) and the Environmental study has now been completed, a topographical study of the area will be carried out at the end of October to determine the best route for the walk, whilst also taking into account the wild life and fauna.

Look at the pictures below to see the state on some of the areas in the woods.  We already know we need a clean up day to clear the worst of the rubbish out of the stream and we need to cut some trees down to allow some light into the area.

August 2009
The Aqueduct Community Association applied to Environment Wales for funding to carry out an Environmental study of the woods behind Garth & Trevor Community Centre, this area, from the railway embankment down to the area around the "clinker" on the canal side is the final link of the circular walk for residents and visitors. July 2009
The Cadbury community team carry out further work on the railway line at Trevor, cutting down overgrown weeds, tidying up all the dumped rubbish and trimming any trees that were overhanging the new foot path thus allowing people to walk the route without having to avoid over hanging trees.
March 2009

During March a new footpath was laid along the disused railway line improving the current footpath surface as the old path was very overgrown and muddy.  The funding was arranged by Councillor Pat Jeffares through Groundworks and Tidy Towns who carried out the majority of the work.  A channel was cut along the selected route and a new hardcore base was laid and allowed to settle before a fine "dust" topping was added.  There have been very many positive comments made about the new footpath.

February 2008

Andrew Hughes has taken on the project of tidying up the old railway line with a view of developing this site further in the future.  Andrew has Steve Edwards and Sue Kempster on his team and they are currently looking at continuing the work carried out last October (see below), should you require any further information please contact a team member.

October 2007

A team of Cadbury volunteers worked in conjunction with the Aqueduct Community Association and a local councillor to start work on cleaning up the old railway line at Trevor. Before the tidy up

The former railway line is now part of a public footpath which is used regularly by local residents, however with many years of neglect the area has become very overgrown and untidy and is often used as a "dumping ground" for rubbish.  But this is all about to change as the Aqueduct Community Association is encouraging local residents to get involved in a clean up operation.

The start of this project took place on 26th October 2007 when 5 Cadbury employees (one of which is the associations treasurer) from the local Chirk factory volunteered to come along and spend the day clearing the bank on the entrance to the old railway yard, other members who joined in were local Llangollen councillor Pat Jeffares and two younger local residents Ben & Harry.  Click here to see an article that was in a local newspaper.

A strimmer was donated for the day by Speedy Hire, Wrexham, many thanks to them for supporting the project. After the tidy up

A second day is currently being planned in the spring where it is hoped Cadbury employees will spend a second day on the project.  It is also hoped that some local residents can join in and show some community spirit to pull together and eventually totally clear the area.  When the area has been tidied up consultation will take place with local residents to determine what can be done with the land for the future.

23rd June 2007
At the end of the visioning day a list of priority projects was created, project number 4 was to improve/create local scenic walks for local people and visitors.
