Projects for 2008

Christmas 2008

Once again we held our Christmas tree lights switch on for Trevor and Fron, however this year we were able to also erect a Christmas tree at Garth so that all three communities had their own tree. The Fron have now planted their tree which is growing well, whilst Trevor and Garth continue to have cut trees.

New for 2008 was a free Christmas party for all pensioners from Trevor, Garth and Fron, the evening turned out to be a great success with over 70 local pensioners in attendance.  There was free food, drinks (alcohol included !!!), prize bingo and a raffle.  Children from Trevor and Garth youth club kindly helped wait on the local pensioners during the evening, see - not all kids are bad!!  There was entertainment for the evening including Christmas carols. A free bus was also available for anybody who needed it.

Santa visited our villages 3 times during the early evening to chat to the children and take their Christmas list away for Christmas day.  Santa also handed out chocolates to the children (Many thanks to Cadbury, Chirk for supplying the chocolate) whilst on his busy schedule.  All the money raised during our Christmas activities went towards the cost of the Pensioners party and to pay the £200 public liability Insurance we have to pay for the Trevor basin Christmas tree!!!!

November
The Aqueduct Community Association were fortunate enough to gain some much needed funding for the Garth & Trevor mothers and toddlers group.  We had been approached by the toddlers Chairperson Sharon Bateman asking if we could help them gain some funding to replace old and unsafe equipment.

On November 30th 2008 Sharon Bateman and Steve Edwards (Association Treasurer) travelled down to Henlle Golf club near Gobowen, Oswestry to receive a cheque for £500.00 which the Par 5 Foundation had very kindly donated to the toddlers via the Aqueduct Community Association.  The Par 5 Foundation raises funds to help out local community groups covering Shropshire and Border Counties, more information on their website here ......

Pictured to the right is Sharon Bateman (second left) and Steve Edwards (holding cheque - centre) receiving a cheque for £500 towards the Trevor and Garth toddlers group (Tiddlywinks) to fund new equipment.

Also pictured are members of the Par 5 Foundation who very kindly agreed to support our cause, for this we are very grateful.

Many thanks,

The Aqueduct Community Association

Also during November we held a "Race Night" at the Trevor and Garth Community Centre raising £560 towards future projects, many thanks to all who attended the evening and made it such a great success.

August
During 2007 The Aqueduct Community Association had been asked to help raise money for the upgrading of the Trevor and Garth Community Centre, a project had been developed to carry out much needed renovation work on the Community Centre.  Work to be carried out included new Double Glazed doors and windows, Upvc cladding to the external woodwork, central heating and a new disabled toilet (along with other minor work).

The Aqueduct Community Association made a £2000 donation towards the project match funding along with other donations from other sources which was enough funding to allow the work to go ahead.

August is also the time of year we hold our annual "Fun day" at Trevor basin, more details of the day can be found here ....

May
We held a Cheese and Wine evening at Trevor and Garth Community Centre to help raise funds towards the renovation of the Community centre. A total of £378 was raised on the evening, many thanks to all who attended.

January 2008

Groundworks

On 30th January 2008 a meeting took place with "Groundwork's" (Wrexham division) to discuss laying some flower beds, planters and hanging baskets around our communities.  A Groundwork's representative is due to have a tour of the area to help plan and action the projects.  Our project manager is Julie Williams (Fron) and she has representatives from all three villages on her team, Dawn Needham (Fron), Mark Valentine (Garth), Andrew Hughes (Trevor), Fiona Edwards (Trevor). If you require any further information please contact a team member.
