Projects 2007

September 2007

The Aqueduct Community Association have been asked by the Trevor & Garth Community Centre management team to help them raise £5000 towards refurbishment work for the centre.  The management team are preparing to apply for a grant of around £40,000 to modernise the centre to include central heating, double glazing, disabled access etc.  For the grant to be given the local community has to find a certain percentage of the money themselves, hence the figure of £5000  Over the coming weeks and months various forms of fundraising will be carried out within the local communities to try and raise this money.  A sub committee of the Aqueduct Community Association is to be formed to oversee the fundraising.  Can you help?

A cheque for £2000.00 was made out to the Trevor & Garth Community Centre on 25th August 2008 as a donation to the above project.

PROJECT COMPLETE

October 2007

A team of Cadbury volunteers worked in conjunction with the Aqueduct Community Association and a local councillor to start work on cleaning up the old railway line at Trevor. Before the tidy up

The former railway line is now part of a public footpath which is used regularly by local residents, however with many years of neglect the area has become very overgrown and untidy and is often used as a "dumping ground" for rubbish.  But this is all about to change as the Aqueduct Community Association is encouraging local residents to get involved in a clean up operation.

The start of this project took place on 26th October 2007 when 5 Cadbury employees (one of which is the associations treasurer) from the local Chirk factory volunteered to come along and spend the day clearing the bank on the entrance to the old railway yard, other members who joined in were local Llangollen councillor Pat Jeffares and two younger local residents Ben & Harry.  Click here to see an article that was in a local newspaper.

A strimmer was donated for the day by Speedy Hire, Wrexham, many thanks to them for supporting the project. After the tidy up

A second day is currently being planned in the spring where it is hoped Cadbury employees will spend a second day on the project.  It is also hoped that some local residents can join in and show some community spirit to pull together and eventually totally clear the area.  When the area has been tidied up consultation will take place with local residents to determine what can be done with the land for the future.

December

Here are a few photographs from the Community band "4 One Night Only" who managed to raise over £400 for our community.  Many thanks to all the band members for giving up their spare time to practice prior to the evening.  Also a big thank you to Cadbury for cash matching the evening.

The band was only intending to play for one night just to raise some money, however the evening went down really well so they have now decided to re form and start up a new band to carry out some more fundraising in the future - I know they all thoroughly enjoyed the evening and had a great buzz from the atmosphere, good luck to the new band for the future......

See how the Fron celebrated their Christmas tree lighting up ceremony here.....

Cadbury electricians at the Trevor tree

The two Christmas trees at Trevor and Fron were lit up as arranged on 15th December, there were far more people at each event than we ever expected giving us the feedback that it was a great idea and one that we can build upon for next

Santas helpers

Prior to Christmas Santa visited Garth, Trevor and Froncysyllte on his sleigh, the sleigh was supplied by Wrexham round table and the two helpers were Phil Price and the sleigh "driver" was Mark Williams.

Pictured to the left are the volunteers from Trevor who walked around with Santa's sleigh collecting money and giving out sweets to all the children.

Many thanks to everybody for all the hard work you put in on both nights, it turned out to be a great successes with very many complimentary remarks made about the evening from the very young to the older residents in our communities.
